The Senate is elected (they made a big point of telling us that ) and has about 76 members. 12 for each state and 2 for the Australian Capital Territory (around Canberra ) and the Northern Territory. There is seating in the House of Reps and the Senate for 500 members of the public as well as several viewing rooms which are behind glass so that you can discuss what is going on without disturbing the proceedings.
