Sydney ...... in the rain

We both really enjoyed Sydney from the Botanical Gardens to the Quay/Harbour Walk and Mrs McQuarie's chair and her folly, the Paddington and the Rocks areas, Darling harbour and across the ferry to Manley, the coffee shops and tented (glass and canvas) shopping centres, to the Olympic sculptures and childrens playgrounds ....we walked and walked and walked for about 11 hours finishing up with a magnificent concert at the Opera House where the wood and glass and sound made an end to a perfect day.
We found it an interesting and cosmopolitan city with a variety of buildings and architecture. Everything well kept and clean, people polite and friendly.
The concert was fascinating starting as it did with a new work (first performance) by the resident composer Liza lim. It was called The Compass and featured an Aboriginal musician playing the Didgeridoo among other interesting instruments such as playing the strings of a grand piano with cat gut. William Barton on the Didgeridoo was phenominal and the other soloist Rosamund plummer on flute was hard to beat too. Although because it was new to my untrained ears it appeared as a cacophony of sounds it was easy to listen to and fascinating to watch.
This was followed by Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A and Saint Saens Symphony # 3 beautifully played and 5 curtain calls to boot. We walked back to the Backpackers on air.
Did not realise that the Opera House is made up of tiles. I always thought from the photos that it was a kind of white plaster not cream angle cut tiles. Great wonderment for me but it is truly an interesting piece of architecture from all angles.
