Christmas in Guyana

Boy scouts ready for Santa......

.....and the ever present candy floss seller.

Look at the size of these speakers and there were 3
or 4 others too!!!

Sorry about the quality of these but as you can see we were hopping about to avoid the rain showers, which drenched the Christmas parade, and the rain drops which I did not realise were on my camera!! Hence the blurriness.
People go CRAZY here at Christmas time. They seem to save up all the house renovations, new clothes, new furniture and spring cleaning until December then there is a mad buying and cleaning spree everywhere. My boss' office has new curtains - which were not needed, new curtain rods, - not needed, and the whole place spring cleaned. Not sure if it was needed as it doesn't look much different except now it has wreaths and tinsel everywhere. Outside the walls are being washed, new parking lot being put in, grass dug up and replanted etc etc etc. The place is a hive of activity. There are parties everywhere just about everyday and no one works after the 15th except some silly VSOs of course! However Santa was there and rode into town at the head of the long long parade of children, in a horse drawn white sleigh. It was great to see the children and we enjoyed watching them and then trying to get nto town ahead of the parade so we could get our shopping.

As iI et so little time to do this blog I want to say Happy Christmas to all of you and it is great to get all your news and catch up on your lives. Please keep them coming. You've no idea how it makes my day to see a note from you.
Mick and I will be in the rainforest bordering the savannah right in the centre of Guyana spending our Christmas in an Amerindian village in the peace and quiet. We anticipate hiking in the forest and up the local hills as well as taking time out to sway gently and read in our hammocks. We will definitely be thinking of family and friends although we will be out of contact for the 4/5 days. Enjoy yourselves and I'll do my best to update you about work and life here in the New Year

Sorry about t
he quality
