Aboriginal influence.......

These are public benches along the roadways in Cairns. they are made of wood and of brightly coloured mosaic chips. Aboriginal influence is everywhere in Cairns and in Alice Springs, making the towns colourful and cheerful....even in the rain.
Cairns was a busy place of course being the ferry terminal for all the ships and charter boats going to the Reef. We found that it had a great atmosphere and that the town council had thought about the local peoples' needs as well. On the harbour front is a huge walkway and swimming pool with a beach. Like most places in Australia the pool is manned by volunteer lifeguards. There are sculptures everywhere and even the water taps are works of art. We enjoyed it especially in the sun.
