Quito again

After a pleasant stop in Sigchos and some lunch we continued around the loop back to latacunga and caught the connection to Quito. This time in Quito we headed out to Otavalo to see the big traditional market there where prices are supposed to be good and the variety exceptional. There was a lot of stuff but not as good as we saw in Peru . We did of course succumb as we had not bought anything en route because of carrying it for the 37 days!!!. However once back in town we found better prices both at the Mitad del Mundio and at the Quito craft market so you never can tell At Otavalo though the traditional dress is really beautiful with fully embroided lace white blouses and black skirts and pretty little black sandals. The men are not so lucky they wear teal green ponchos, grey felt trilby hats and white short pants with their long hair in pigtails down their backs.

We also had fun the next day jumping between the North and South hemispheres as we stood astride the equator which runs through Quito and where they have a tourist site of course plus lots of really interesting informationa about the discovery of the place of the equator and about the many many different cultures within Ecuador. A great visit again.
