Last minute stuff

Well, I have at last run out of time. This is the last blog with pictures (oops sorry no pictures as the picture icon is not responding today ) for a while.
Mick is packed and ready and I haven't started and am busy writing a funding proposal for the project before I go home tonight plus the computer is not working properly so I have to cycle up to VSO to give them my project info instead of just sending it.

Have taken a few minutes to try and get this last blog up. However it seems to have frozen so I'll hope I can put it up later. In the meantime just to let you know we have had a busy last few days with goodbye Canadian Coffee and Dessert hosted at our place with our other Canadian volunteers, and a trip to Guysuco's sugar factory yesterday morning. What an operation! The factory is well over 100 years old but it was fascinating watching the cane come in by barge from the estate to be ground and heated and steamed in order to eventually produce the golden Demarara sugar...
.....and no, brown sugar is not white sugar with molasses added - it is raw sugar without all the molasses removed! The factories are increasingly becoming mechanised to build the bottom line of efficiency and Guyana is now doing some of its own refining rather than sending it to Europe to be done. Hopefully it will help the economy especially as they are also using the cane not only for Rum but for bio fuels too. I imagine it might gum up the works but apparently not - cheaper than corn they say!

Things I'll miss are the sunshine and feeling that my skin is not dry and taught and in need of moisturizer but things I won't miss are the cold showers, hand clothes washing, smelly canals, garbage and noise.

So there we have it Part 1 of the adventure is over - now onto Part 2 in the Galapagos, Macchu Picchu, Trinidad and Tobago and back to Canada. I admit I am exhausted but planning to revive myself on this trip. Looking forward to seeing you all sometime this year and thanks for sharing this time with me and keeping me going with your good wishes and comments. in haste.............
