Giant Anteater On our last morning we were taken early in the land rover across the savannah to find a Giant Anteater. I had no idea they were so big nor that they had such enormous tails. He heard the vaquero (rancher on horseback) and us coming and lumbered away pretty quickly with an ungainly gait. Strange looking animal with big course muffs on his paws to stop the ants getting at him and such a long nose/mouth. Interesting to see though.

We also investigated the buildings at the Karanambu Trust Centre and found one of the workers making furniture. Here you see him sawing a plank of wood – very, very hard wood, I might add - and if you think the picture looks funny, you’d be right as he is sawing backwards from the way we saw. It looked awkward to me but he was managing just fine and I didn’t offer to take over.

We took a small plane back from Karanambu to Ogle Airport in Georgetown and it was wonderful to see the miles and miles of rainforest from above and watch the huge rivers winding their way through it .
Small planes may be scary but they are such wonderful viewing galleries. Here are some of the sugar cane fields as we neared Georgetown.
