Time to read...........

Even though we do not galavant a lot and participate in the frenzied and noisy nightlife here, we have had time to read and it is so different reading books about Canada when you are away from reading them when you are in Canada. These are a couple from my book club this year which I have really enjoyed while here. I kept thinking about Canada and its beauty, the culture we take for granted but which is essentially so considerate and gentle, and so very different now from many years ago, which is where countries like Guyana seem to be. Countries that still are arguing about corporal punishment, that still accept a somewhat cruel approach to child rearing and care in general. It spills over in their treatment of each other which is harsh and to our minds rude. It is hard not to react negatively to so much nastiness around you, oftentime not overt, so it has been a great joy to connect through books to Canada as well as through your lovely emails so caring and well wishing. The book at the back is the folk lore about the settlement of the Surama and Iwokrama area and it is bilingual being both English and Makushi.
