Health concerns.........

This is a picture of the local public toilets which, I might add, I have not tried. They are however secure and clean and i must say that I was pleasantly surprised to see them.
The other photo is of a typical house on stilts to avoid the flooding and also to have cool breezes blow beneath the house and keep it cool. Most are built in wood that I have seen but no doubt when I have been here longer I will have pictures of other types.
We have had a couple of lectures by doctors about health issues here and I must say that after hearing them both Mick and I believe the issues here are greater than in Africa, primarily because of the moisture issues. You are always sweating and must change several times a day (hence our retreat to the air conditioned internet cafes and bars). Even at 6.30 am I find it hot. My favourite time to date is in the evening between about 5.30 and 7.30 when it is cooler and pleasant to walk.
We do not require anti malarials here in Georgetown but will take it before going into the country. We are particularly careful about water and about food but the fruits are wonderful, pineapples, mangoes, watermelon, bananas (at least three varieties) and many other which we haven't yet tried. Eggs, chicken, fish and bacon are plentiful as is rice cooked several different ways, yams, sweet potatoes, beans, okra, tomatoes, salad stuff etc so you see we will not starve.
