Poi dance

Auckland is another beautiful city surrounded by beaches and water. I can undertand why 75% of North Islanders live there. It has a big parking problem but car pooling and busroutes seemed good, and it must be great to live in the big city and sit on the beach at lunch or after work play volleyball or meet the family there as we saw many people doing.
It had many lovely buildings among them the War Memorial Museum set in its own park and which does not only deal with war. We noted many mothers and children and school parties visiting while we were there and it wasn't even the height of the tourist season yet.
We stopped to see the cultural show which occurs about three times per day and this is a picture of the famous Poi dance which is very graceful and rhythmic. The women twirl these balls in front of and beside them and tap them to keep them moving while stamping their feet in time to the music. It looked so easy but when they had representatives of each country come up onto the stage ( I was the only Canadian so was chosen for that reason ) and learn how to do it I realised that it was more complex than i thought. I no longer think that I have a good sense of rhythm!!
