Rains and how............

Here is the sidewalk in front of the hospital and near our house after the first heavy rain. As you see Mick has had to walk on the roadway.
The rains have definitely staarted and when they come the air cools fr a few hours but soon the humidity clicks in again and of course walking or riding is far from pleasant as you try to avoid all the potholes now filled with water and not really visible. i try to remember where they were before the rain and sometimes I am crrect and sometimes I splash down into the now water filled hole! Great fun.
Guyana like Holland is mainly below sealevel all along the coastal region where most people live and they are kept relatively free from the sea by a series of sluice gates all along the coast. However maintenance has never been a consistent activity in developing nations and the huge floods here a few years ago was primarily the result of sluice gates that did not work when they were needed. things have improved since then so we are hopeful that we will be saved any flood problems.......hence the reason VSO puts us on the top floor of houses.
