Now for the bad news!

Not the greatest picture of Inge (Dutch) my placement officer here in Guyana but she is very nice, direct and knowledgeable. She is with Barbara Lawrence the Director of Disability at the Ministry of Health who is my Line Manager for my project here. She too has been very helpful and pleasant since I met her and has a great 3 weeks of Orientation planned for myself and Jente a speech pathologist from the Netherlands.
The bad news came when we went to see our house which was in a compound with Jente's house and that of the two deaf VSOs. The house was three bedroomed and although basic had everything that we needed with the exception of electricity which was suposed to have been switched on by now.
Trying to be accommodating Mick and I said "Oh that's OK until Monday as we can manage with candles until then" Stupid of course. All the cases were carried upstairs into the house on stilts and partially unpacked. Barbara left assuring us that someone was coming to put things right.
Mick decided to get comfortable and shower BUT ..............no water and after much searching no way to get any water. I phoned Barbara on her cell and she went to the Housing /accommodation Director for the Min of Health who phoned the landlady of our house. They had words, the upshot of which was that we had to repack and return to the guest house. We were absolutely streaming by this time and the worst of it was that poor Jente whose house was just fine but who had the same landlady was made to leave too as the Ministry person said the landlady's rudeness and our house were unacceptable ...hurrumph ....so out we came. ....and we are still in the guest house which is very expensive and the Ministry are frantically trying to find us another house. I think that they are now sorry as other VSOs from other Ministries have snapped up the houses and got things sorted and moved in.... and Jente and we are still costing the Min of Health a fortune at the guest house!!!!.
We are well and will update you but.......................this is Guyana!
